Short Blog 5: Subways and Trams
This image from the City of Toronto archives captures the inside of a subway car at Hillcrest Yards. I’ve never actually been to Canada so I don’t know what its transportation system is like but this picture reminds me of the trams in Calcutta. A tram is an extremely slow moving mode of transportation that is very similar to the subway car shown in the picture except that a tram operates on the roads and not underground. Seeing this picture and being reminded of trams fills me with a sense of nostalgia of the good old days of Calcutta. Unfortunately trams have lost their relevance with the emergence of faster and more convenient modes of transportation. Although, it is indeed surprising that it continues to operate despite its dilapidated condition.
